Hitting our stride as we approach Election Day

June 3rd, 2010

Hello everyone. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the support I’m hearing out on the street for my candidacy for the Board of Supervisors. It’s very gratifying. I know that by working together we can make the whole of District 3 a better place to work, live and play.

As you look over your mail-in ballot or as you prepare to go the polls on June 8, you’ll notice that there are a total of four people vying for this post. I hope you’ll select me. I am the one candidate in the field that has practical experience in the business of rejuvenating communities. As many of you know, I was able to do it here in Alameda and I’m now prepared to do the same across the whole of District 3.

For those that would like to show their support for my campaign, we will be delighted to get a lawn sign out to you. Just call my campaign manager Georgia Petrie at 610-1011.

My candidacy for the District 3 seat represents a fresh change in ideas and leadership. I’m eager to take on the job and I know that I’ll hit the ground running. I would be honored to have your vote June 8.

Great party in San Leandro!

March 31st, 2010

Hi everyone. Just wanted to say thanks to you all for coming out last night to help me launch my campaign for supervisor at Zocalo Coffeehouse in San Leandro.

It was great to see you all and it seemed like everyone had a good time. I was also gratified to meet and greet many new San Leandro friends and supporters of my campaign. Lastly, let me thank our friends at Zocalo for the great setting and friendly staff and our friends at Paradiso who catered our event. The food was excellent!

Making our voices heard to save San Leandro Hospital

March 24th, 2010

I wanted to share with you my gratitude to all the nurses and doctors at San Leandro Hospital who allowed me to join them in their vigil and protest to save the hospital and its emergency room from closure on Monday evening.

It was a privilege to join them. As many of you know, saving San Leandro Hospital will be my No. 1 goal if elected as the next District 3 supervisor. But just having a short-term rescue plan isn’t enough. We have to make sure all of our county’s hospitals, ERs and clinics are financially stable. Too much depends on it.

So while I pledge to fight to save this important facility for all San Leandrans, I’m thinking of ways we can fix our county’s ailing health care system as a whole.

Earning Your Vote

March 11th, 2010

Bev JohnsonHello and welcome to my campaign’s Web site!

In this blog space and in the YouTube portal to the right, I will be both writing and talking about the many critical issues facing District 3 and greater Alameda County.

As many of you know, I have served as Alameda’s mayor for almost two full terms now. I’ve been on the City Council for a total of 12 years. I’m a family law attorney, my husband, Michael, is an Oakland cop and we have two children, Geoff, 19, and Katherine, 16.

In addition to my time in local city government, I also serve on eight regional governmental boards, including the Association of Bay Area Governments, the Water Emergency Transportation Authority and the Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority.

The experience of being Alameda’s chief elected official and my service on these regional boards has prepared me for service as your new supervisor like no other candidate in this race. If elected you can count on the fact that I will hit the ground running!

As we begin this campaign, I am proud and excited to announce that I have been endorsed by Senator Loni Hancock, Assemblyman Sandre Swanson and former state Senate President Don Perata.

We all know that District 3 and greater Alameda County is facing a number of tough challenges and issues. While I outline a number of these issues in the platform section of this site (see tab above), I believe that resolving the on-going crisis surrounding San Leandro Hospital must be Priority No. 1.

Keeping this hospital and its ER open is literally a life and death issue for many San Leandrans and I’m not about to let them down.

Please check back here for campaign updates here soon — and thanks in advance for your support.
